she's starting to fade a bit in color, Vampire Doggie! Park her on the neighbors brick edging (one of her favorite spots) in the bright Spring afternoon sun and her batteries will be recharged in no time! Now if I could muster up the energy to take her for a walk every night, we could both work on our "Muffin Tops!"
That is always a great question, isn't it? We ususally create wherever we can. Sometimes it's the kitchen table, the island, a dining room table that doesn't get much use otherwise unless it's a special occasion. Sometimes we are lucky to carve out our own space, an extra bedroom, a room designated buy the builder as a home office or we really take over that unused dining room and set up serious shop. I am lucky enough to have part of the basement, okay, a good part of the basement that is all mine. That's where I create. That's where I bring the treasures I discover at thrift stores, antiques stores, garage sales, estate sales, Target, you name it and I've been there. But I know alot of you are there too. Either a day ahead of me or a redlight behind me, we all know the thrill of the hunt. What am I hunting for, not sure, but I'll know when I see it, am I right? I know you get it, because we are alot alike. Here is a peek at what my studio used to look like after all those treasure hunts. As Teresa would say, " GAAAA! " I know, I know! And yes that is an elliptical machine, and no, no one uses it because they can't get to it for the piles of "treasures" around it. And thankfully, Jo Packham gets it. She conceived and continues to produce the Where Women Create series of magazines and travels the contry peeking into the lives and drawers of women who create. Lucky girl, and she knows it, too, doesn't take it for granted, realizes all her hard work pays off for all involved. She is a fantastically gorgeous person who travels with Paula Jansen, an incredible photographer, who is nicer than nice, I definitely can't wait to talk to either of them again.
When you get an email from Jo, asking if she and Paula could come and photograph your studio for the magazine, what do you say? Well, after you come to, you get up off the floor, get back into your computer chair and you respond, something like, "I would be honored to have you as a guest in my studio, what year were you thinking of coming?" Then she responds back, "We will be in the area in ten or so days, will that work for you?" After you again come to lying on the floor, pull yourself back into your computer chair, your mind spinning, and respond, "That would be fantastic, can't wait to meet you!" you go to your patio door and scream at the top of your lungs, gather yourself, call your bestest friends, get some paint and some garbage bags and get busy!!! Many late nights, pain pills for screaming muscles (up and down basement stairs, like, a 1,000 times), and 7 bandaids for paper cuts, a major furniture construction project by your husband, who hates the finished product because it turned out to be much more complicated than we both thought, but I absolutely LOVE, later, you have a magical place that looks like this...
is always a fun thing to do. Especially when it's Charlotte and Kim who is plotting the surprise! Last year you all remember when Pam was having her back issues and was totally out of commision for awhile? Well, the girls decided she needed a get well card, the fattest get well card ever! So they invited a bunch of friends to gather their supplies and create a double sided piece of happiness wrapped with a hug to bind together into a book for sweet Pam to read in bed. It turned out so thick and looks so comfy soft, she may have even used it as a pillow when the meds kicked in, I would have! Then Somerset Life got wind and decided to do a story on it and the result is a sweet little feature in this issue of the magazine. You've got to check it out!!! Here are my pages that I sent in, hopefully is made Pam smile and drool not as much. (pain meds, ya know!) Oh, I better be nice to Pam, I hope someday I'll be able to sit and look through it and see what everyone created. Thanks Charlotte & Kim, for inviting me to play along!
How you all are wearing green or at least avoiding the pinchers!!!! The kids were sure to wear a green t-shirt today, which was good becasue I couldn't find my emergency stash of green clover stickers that I keep in the drawer. When they were little they didn't have any green clothes so we had a huge package of green clover stickers that got us through many years!
and the children are doing their best to soak up as much sunshine and mud as they can. Can you blame them? The football is flying back and forth and the dog is watching forlornly, anxious to go outside, but there have been a few stray cats and dogs trotting through the backyard off and on the past few days. Very weird, if you ask me. And some of those dogs would make a nice snack out of our pudgy weiner dog in a heartbeat as she is a little mouthy. The cats just look at her and run off in third gear, and the squirrels know their place, but those big dogs...I don't know. Animal Control isn't the fastest on the response time and the wild ones are long gone by the time Mr. Dog Catcher calls back. We have an underground fence for Sophie but that doesn't really keep the strays out does it? Plus, when you put the shock collar on her she won't even step in the grass, BECAUSE THE GRASS IS BAD!!!!!!! And stings a bit. Take the collar off and she runs in the neighbors yard. I'd hate to put up a fence in the backyard, our whole neighborhood is open and so pretty. Although, I don't really enjoy picking up strange dog poop, but then who really does? Just a little glimpse into the glamour that is my life! Jealous?!
it's just starting to take off, everyday there are new signs of activity, layers of winter protection are starting to come off (which means children are lobbying to wear thinner jackets to school, yes, it was 50˚ yesterday and sunny but today it's going to be snowy/rainy and 40˚ so put that winter coat back on!). Over at The Pink Potpourri, the featured Friday giveaway is a pack of my Spring has Sprung flash cards and a Believe in Spring garland. What bettter way can you think of to welcome Springthan by putting Springtime words around your house or taped to your husband's back? Okay, I would never do that! I swear, it just popped out!
